Apples are a delicious fruit that you’ll find throughout the world all year round. They come in many colors and flavors: red, green, yellow, and even pink. Personally, I love an apple that’s a little sweet, but also a bit sour. And if that apple is also fresh and juicy, to me it’s just perfect.
Whether you eat them for breakfast, lunch, or as a healthy snack, apples have many health benefits.
Health benefits of apples
Apples are super-good in many ways… Here we go:
Good for your teeth
One of the great benefits of apples is that they’re kind of a natural toothbrush. Because apples are crunchy and have a bit of a tough skin, when you take a bite of an apple, you stimulate your gums. Then, chewing it up you work the muscles in your mouth and jaws. And doing so helps take off any bacteria that heave built up on your teeth.
One thing to keep in mind is that apples are mildly acidic, so it’s good to take a sip of water and rinse that around in your mouth after you eat an apple.
Filled with goodness
Another reason why apples are good for your health, is that they’re full of vitamins and minerals. They have good amounts of vitamin C and potassium, as well as vitamin K, B6 and manganese. Next to that there are also other vitamins and minerals in apples. For example vitamin A and E, as well as calcium, iron, magnesium and phosphorus.
Another benefit of apples is that they’re full of beneficial antioxidants, which help your body fight any inflammation. And high in fiber, they’re also really good for your digestion.
Apples give you quick energy
If you’re feeling a little low, then the natural sugars in an apple give you a quick energy boost. Next to that, one medium sized apple gives you about 100 calories. Depending on what you’re doing, that’s enough to fuel your body for about an hour.
There’s also plenty of water in apples, so they help you replenish your fluids. And that’s beneficial for many systems in your body.
Make you look your best
And finally, apples make you look good. Not just because they make your skin shine, but also because people associate them with health. So just walking around eating an apple, you’ll look healthier. Yay : )
Cheap, easy, and widely available
Did you know there are over ten-thousand varieties of apple? Most of these are smaller, wild varieties that you won’t find in any shop. But you can find many types of cultivated apples in your local store or farmers market. So there’s a variety for everyone’s taste.
Apples are also very affordable, even if you buy them organic. And most keep well, which means you can enjoy them in any season. And with so many ways in which apples are good for you, they’re one of the best fruits to keep on your fruit-bowl.
And I really like that you can just put one or two apples in your bag and you have a super-healthy, simple and affordable snack with you.
A very photogenic fruit
Apples also look great in pictures. From a blossom on an apple-tree to cut in half just before eating. The colors, textures and round beautiful shapes make them a very photogenic fruit. Here are some apple pictures that I like.
